140-Year-Old Home — Exterior Restoration & New Back Door

Daltonn’s Painting & Handyman Services restored the exterior of this 140-year-old home after replacing deteriorated wood, rebuilding a damaged pop-out section, removing failing paint, completing detailed preparation, and installing a new back door in an older opening that required careful adjustment.

Finished home

The result comes first.

The strongest finished photographs lead this project story, just as the home reads from the street. The repair and preparation photographs below document what it took to reach this point.

The house before the exterior work began.

This photograph was taken before the restoration. It documents the home’s original exterior appearance before the deteriorated wood, damaged pop-out section, preparation, painting, and new back-door work shown throughout this case study.

The project

Preserve the character. Repair what the paint cannot hide.

This 140-year-old home had failing paint and deteriorated exterior wood that needed attention before a new finish could make sense. One of the most visible areas was the projecting bay-window section, where damaged material had to be opened and rebuilt.

Daltonn’s Painting & Handyman Services completed the repairs, detailed preparation, exterior painting, and a new back-door installation. Because the old home’s opening was out of square, the new door had to be carefully adjusted to fit the existing conditions.

Wood repair + rebuilding

The opened areas show why this was restoration work—not a quick repaint.

The photographs document siding removal, exposed wall areas, the damaged pop-out section, and porch/eave access before the exterior was prepared and painted.

  • Replaced deteriorated exterior wood
  • Rebuilt the damaged pop-out section
  • Removed failing paint and prepared the exterior surfaces

New back-door installation

A new door fitted to an old opening that was not square.

The original back door was removed and replaced with a new one. On a home this old, the opening did not give us modern, straight lines to work from, so the installation required careful adjustment to fit the existing stone opening cleanly.

Preparation + painting

Detailed work across windows, siding, trim, and porch surfaces.

Caulking, scraping, surface preparation, brushwork, and spray application were documented across the project—not just the final reveal.
