Brick limewash

Romabio Limewash: Plain Brick to Soft Cream

Daltonn and his crew limewashed the brick on this home with Romabio Classico Limewash in Riposo Beige, the color the homeowner picked. The limewash was sprayed on, then washed back with a hose so some of the original brick still shows through. Plain tan-and-brown brick is now a soft cream.

How it was done

Sprayed on. Washed back.

Limewash isn’t regular paint. It goes onto bare brick, then part of it gets washed back so some of the brick still shows through. That’s what gives it the soft, aged look.

Finished

Front, side, and back.

The brick went from plain tan and brown to a soft cream, with some of the original brick still showing through. Against the dark roofline, windows, and garage door, the house now reads light and clean.

Can any brick be limewashed?

No. Romabio makes Classico Limewash for bare, unpainted brick, stone, and masonry that can soak it in. It isn’t made for painted brick, siding, or trim. If your brick has been painted or sealed, send photos and Daltonn will tell you what makes sense.

Why is limewash washed back?

Washing some of it back lets part of the original brick show through, so the finish looks soft and aged instead of solid. On this house the limewash was sprayed on, then washed back with a hose.

How do you pick a limewash color?

See it on your own brick first. Romabio Classico comes in a range of whites and neutrals. On this house the homeowner saw a sample on the brick and picked Riposo Beige.
